We are looking for energetic, friendly, and dependable volunteers who are passionate about youth sports, teamwork, and creating a positive, welcoming environment. Volunteers will support tournament operations while modeling YMCA values of respect, inclusion, and good sportsmanship.

Position Summary
YMCA Volunteer Sports Coaches help lead sports classes and recreational leagues to ensure program goals and participant enjoyment are met. Volunteers assist with implementing curriculum, encouraging teamwork, and creating a safe, positive, and inclusive experience for all participants.

Essential Responsibilities

Set up and lead scheduled classes, practices, and games

Support special events and sports activities as needed

Attend coach and program meetings

Communicate schedules and important updates to players and families

Follow YMCA policies, safety guidelines, and emergency procedures

Maintain and organize sports equipment

Model good sportsmanship and support officials and program leadership

Encourage teamwork, unity, and positive team culture

Relationships

Reports to the Sports Director/Senior Sports Coordinator. Interacts regularly with YMCA staff, members, volunteers, youth, families, and community members from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required

Coaching or sports leadership experience (preferred 2+ years)

Working knowledge of the designated sport

Ability to complete online concussion training within 30 days

Dependable, organized, and self-motivated

Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills

Interest in working with diverse youth and families

Work Conditions

Active role requiring mobility, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs

Ability to stay calm and respond appropriately in urgent situations

Local travel to branch sites, meetings, or trainings may be required

Environments range from quiet indoor spaces to busy gyms and outdoor fields

May encounter typical youth sports behaviors or bodily fluids

Must be able to actively participate in games and activities
