Lane Line Volunteers work closely with life guards and water exercise instructors to unhook and hook the lane lines in the pool. Volunteers will remain in the water while unhooking and hooking the lines back into place.

1. Volunteer Summary:
The Y’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Y offers a range of health, wellness, educational and social activities for older adults. The Lane Line volunteer displays leadership, good relationships, a collaborative spirit and a positive outlook.
The Lane Line volunteer is responsible for their assigned activity with minimal level of supervision. Duties include unhooking the lines from within the pool prior to the start of water exercise classes and hooking the lane lines back into the pool at the end of water exercise classes.
2. Volunteer General Responsibilities:
- Represents the Y mission to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
- Demonstrate the YMCA core values: honesty, responsibility, caring, equity and respect at all times.
- Maintains positive relationships with members, Y employees and supervisor.
- Communicates in a timely manner with members, Y employees and supervisor.
- Attends semi-annual volunteer training meetings/performance reviews.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions and share new and better ways to engage members.
- Ensures safety protocols are followed and privacy and confidentiality of members.
- Maintains knowledge and if necessary, carries out emergency action plan.
- Communicates questions or reports incidents to supervisor in timely way.
- Takes attendance at beginning of activity. Turns attendance sheet to supervisor or Member Services at completion of activity.
3. Volunteer Qualifications/Requirements:
- Ability to volunteer one or more classes per month
- Dedicated to member safety and the mission and philosophy of the YMCA
- Volunteer application
- Face-to-face interview
- Criminal Background Check
- Signed Code of Conduct
- Completion of online New Volunteer Orientation (NVO)
4. Additional Notes:
This volunteer opportunity represents the primary needs identified at this time but is not intended to be all-inclusive. The volunteer will also be responsible for taking direction from their supervisor or other designated YMCA team member.
