Hydroponic Volunteer Days are every Monday from 3:00-4:30.
1. Volunteer Summary:
You can make a big difference in food security in the St. Croix Valley by volunteering with hydroponic lettuce production at Camp St. Croix! You will help our staff maintain the machines, plant seeds, transplant, harvest lettuce, and bag it for the Backpack Programs. This volunteer opportunity also includes being part of a positive atmosphere that promotes team member and program participant safety and satisfaction in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Volunteers should come prepared to stand for 2 hours.
2. Volunteer General Responsibilities:
- Assist the Farm Staff with responsibilities such as planting, transplanting and harvesting lettuce, and cleaning machines.
- Engage other volunteers in meaningful projects throughout the year through fun and positive interactions.
- Follow all procedures and policies of the camp and association.
3. Volunteer Qualifications/Requirements:
- Ability to read, interpret instructions and procedures, and follow-through with instructions to job completion.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

4. Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for 2 hours.
- Perform essential maintenance with hydroponic machines which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; pulling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lifting up to 25-50 pounds.
5. Additional Notes:
Our Hydroponic Machines are located in the basement of our Dining Hall at the Main Camp Entrance (532 Co Rd F). Park in the parking lot, walk to the Dining Hall, and make your way downstairs! If you'ld like a scenic route and it's not icy, come down the gently sloping backpack to the basement door.
