1. Summary:

The Y’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Y offers a range of health, wellness, educational and social activities for older adults. The ForeverWell Volunteer Ambassador will aid in building the ForeverWell community through welcoming new members, building relationships and leading/assisting with activities. A Volunteer Ambassador displays leadership, good relationships, a collaborative spirit and a positive outlook.

 

The Volunteer Ambassador is responsible for their assigned activity with minimal level of supervision and acts as a liaison between the group activity and ForeverWell Coordinator. Duties may include, but are not limited to e-mail correspondence, telephone communication, room set-up, greeting members, activity leadership, meeting facilitation, promotion of ForverWell activities and ensure of safety protocols. The overall goal of the position is to assist the ForeverWell Coordinator to create a welcoming and encouraging environment to engage older adult members on their health and wellness journey.

 

2. Essential Functions:

  •  Represents the Y mission to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
  • Demonstrate the YMCA core values: honesty, responsibility, caring, and respect at all times.
  • Inspires and supports older adult members ages 50 to 105 in the FW community.
  • Maintains positive relationships with members, Y employees and supervisor.
  • Communicates in a timely manner with members, Y employees and supervisor.
  • Attends semi-annual volunteer training meetings/performance reviews.
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions and share new and better ways to engage members.
  • Ensures safety protocols are followed and privacy and confidentiality of members.
  • Maintains knowledge and if necessary, carries out emergency action plan.
  • Communicates questions or reports incidents to supervisor in timely way.
  • For outdoor activities and off site activities, collaborates additional planning in collaboration with FW supervisor.
  • Takes attendance at beginning of activity. Turns attendance sheet to supervisor or Member Services at completion of activity.

 

3. Requirement:

  • Volunteer application
  • Interview
  • Able to volunteer at least one event per month
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Completion of online New Volunteer Orientation (NVO)

 

4. Physical Demands:

  • Depends on specific requirements of activity.
  • Accommodations made as needed.

 

5. Additional Notes:

  • Volunteer Ambassadors should ideally have access to internet.
